Privacy Policy for Deenlight

Deenlight ("the app", "we", "our") is a Qur'an reading and Islamic reference app. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, why, and how it is (and is not) used. We built Deenlight to work with as little data as possible, and this policy reflects that in plain language.

Deenlight has no user accounts, no login, and no user profiles.
Deenlight does not use analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash-reporting SDKs of any kind.
Deenlight does not sell, rent, or share personal data with advertisers or data brokers — it has no mechanism to do so.
The only device permission Deenlight requests is location, and only to calculate Prayer Times and Qibla direction.
The Qur'an text, translations, hadith, tafsir, duas, and the 99 Names of Allah are built into the app and read from your device — reading them sends nothing over the network.

Location Data

Deenlight requests foreground ("when in use") location access only. Deenlight never requests or uses background location — it cannot access your location while the app is closed or backgrounded.

Location is used exclusively to power two screens:

Prayer Times — to calculate accurate prayer times for where you are.
Qibla — to calculate the direction of the Qibla from where you are.

Here is exactly what happens with your location:

When you open the Prayer Times or Qibla screen, the app asks your device for your current coordinates (latitude and longitude).
Those coordinates are sent over HTTPS, as part of the request, to Deenlight's own calculation server (described below), which computes the result and returns it in the same response.
The coordinates are not stored by that server — they are used only to compute the response and are not written to any database or log kept by us.
The coordinates are not linked to any user identity — there is no identity to link them to, since Deenlight has no accounts, no login, and no user profiles.
The coordinates are not saved to your device's storage either. They are requested fresh each time you open one of these two screens and are not cached or persisted.
Your location is never sold, shared with advertisers, or used for tracking, analytics, or any purpose other than the one-time calculation described above.

If you decline the location permission, or if location cannot be determined, the Prayer Times and Qibla screens simply won't be able to show a result — the rest of the app (Qur'an reading, Hadith, Tafsir, Duas, Hijri Calendar, 99 Names of Allah) works fully without it.

Data Stored on Your Device

Deenlight keeps the following on your device only, in the app's private storage:

The built-in Qur'an, translation, hadith, tafsir, dua, and 99 Names content that ships with the app
Bookmarks you save and your reading progress
Your preferences, such as selected translation language, reciter, and font size

This data stays on your device — it is never transmitted to us or to any third party. You can remove it at any time by uninstalling the app, or by clearing the app's storage through your device's settings (for example, Android's Settings → Apps → Deenlight → Storage → Clear Storage).

Network Services

Deenlight connects to the internet only for the following:

Deenlight calculation server (operated by us, hosted on Vercel) — computes Prayer Times, the Qibla direction, and the Hijri date. Prayer Times and Qibla requests include your coordinates as described above; Hijri date requests include only a date. No other information is sent, and nothing is stored.
Qur'an recitation audio — when you play a recitation, the audio file for that verse is streamed from public Qur'an audio servers (verses.quran.com and mirrors.quranicaudio.com). These requests contain only which verse and reciter to play, plus the standard technical information any web request carries (such as your IP address), which those servers handle under their own policies.

No API keys, accounts, or sign-in are involved in any of these requests.

No Ads, No Analytics, No Accounts

Deenlight does not display advertisements, does not include any analytics or tracking SDKs, does not include any crash-reporting SDKs, and does not require or offer account creation or login of any kind. There is no user-generated content and no social/sharing features.

Children's Privacy

Deenlight is a general-audience educational and religious-reference app and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since Deenlight does not collect personal information from any user (see above), this applies equally to users of any age.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the app's features or the services it relies on. Any changes will be reflected by an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
